Self Portrait as Warrior
approx 20" x 28"
Acrylic on paper
Well this has to be one of the poorest self portrait likenesses ever, but I am OK with that. This work is just warm up stuff any way. I have been accepted into the San Diego Fine Art Society's Mentoring Program. I am thrilled about it too - even though it's going to be a real challenge. I do love a challenge as you probably know!
We have had a couple of meetings and last night was our first NLP workshop and then we had dinner together. There are 8 of us in the program and I already like everyone a lot. They are all so accomplished and inspiring to be with. What a joy it is to have other artists to talk to for a change.
Beside April Game - the founder of SDFAS, our mentor is Alexander Salazar, a young gentleman who has a gallery in San Diego, and just opened an art auction house. I like him a lot. He is very easy to be with, and seems like a genuine, authentic and caring guy. I think I can learn a lot from him. He has a wonderful spirit that just makes you want to be around him. And of course April is a bundle of energy and enthusiasm and encouragement. Both Alexander and April are very honest and don't pull any punches - which I LOVE in people.
Saturday, April and Alexander came to see my studio space and my work. It was pretty embarrassing as I have nothing going on in there, and the place is a wreck and all disorganized. Oh well, it is what it is and with the events of this past year not much I could do about it. Anyway, Aleander suggested I remove all of my old work and all of the influences in my studio and just start anew. what a great idea. Then he spied an old warrior angel figurine I had in there and suggested I do 2 big paintings - 36" x 36". One of myself as a warrior angel and one of the sky. Actuall they are assignments and due Jan 8th !!!! That is 2 weeks away and we are going to Ohio for a week of it.
Last night I couldn't sleep - excited to get working, concerned about the deadline. So I got up a t 1 AM and got going. I have the drawing for the 36"x 36" canvas laid out but I wanted to warm up a bit -so I started this one on paper and really got into it. I amy do a couple more on paper before I start on the big canvas - we will see.
I am having fun. I am totally neglecting Christmas and the holidays, but I am excited for my artwork and what the future holds. Stay tuned...
Thanks for another excellent post. Where else could anyone get that kind of information in such an ideal way of writing? I’ve a presentation next week, and I’m on the look for such info.
