Back in the Studio

Alef and Tav - each are 3" x 3" - acrylic on board

It is good to get back to creating art. However, after such a long break - it is very difficult. I did not want to try to just jump back into the series I was working on - the momentum isn't there and the feeling isn't right yet.

It is an odd thing actually. There is a great sense of loss and depression, and of being overwhelmed with negativity that comes from taking a break from creativity, or painting. I am sad for the time lost, I am fearful about getting started again. It doesn't make logical sense, it's all illogical, nonsensical and emotional, but pretty real just the same. All of the insecurities that I battle with - (actually most artists I know battle them) - have had time to regroup and build a new giant barrier that once again needs to be beaten down and conquered. It happens often when I take a break,  after completing something I am happy with, and sometimes it appears out of nowhere for no apparent reason. I suppose writers might call it writers block or something like that.

Fortunately I have had enough experience with this monstrosity that I know it will pass and I will get my balance back. But it is still an ugly and  difficult thing to deal with. I hate it.

On the other hand - I had fun playing in the studio today. And that is what I did - play. It's one of the best weapons against the negative fears, thoughts and feelings. I have also been having a very interesting time learning about Paleo-Hebrew writing and the Hebrew language.  So I combined the two.

These two little painting - and they are little, just 3" x 3" are the Alef and the Tav - the first and last letters of the Hebrew alefbet. It's like the Alpha and Omega that you may be more familiar with. More about that as I go. I plan to do the whole alefbet - but I know the holidays are coming up and with that more interuptions.

Taking it a day at a time.

Still no painting- something better I have to share with you!

I have been rather busy!

On Thursday evening Nathalie had these photos taken by her good friend Conner, and on Friday she went to the hospital. Conner and his wife, and Nathalie and her husband were out fooling around and doing this for fun - little did they know it was absolutely the last chance to get any photos while she was still pregnant. Conner did a phenomenal job on this - it moves me to tears each time I watch - and not much in this life moves me to tears! Thank you Conner for doing this. You should really consider a career change!

First enjoy this:

and then we got this -

Minutes after taking his first breath of air. About 2 weeks early but still considered term - and just perfect!

Caden Eric - 7#12oz - 19 inches

This is the best excuse not to paint that I have EVER had! What a wonderful beautiful perfect little baby boy. I am officially a Grandmother.
Oh my gosh - I am WAY too young to be one! LOL -  Just a little more time to enjoy the boy and help my daughter a bit and then back to the studio.

If the video and photos don't show up in your email - please go to my site to view them - click HERE  or just go to http//nsdavisart.blogspot.com or on YouTube here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8DBp4kaAdw

I am sad that the video resolution is not very good on this blog - it is incredible on the DVD - I don't know how to fix it,  but I just wanted to share this with you anyway.
Happy Happy Joy Joy

I am back -

I don't have a painting to post - becasue I haven't been painting. I've been flying back and forth between CA and OH since May (I think - seems like forever!), caring for my Mother, and overseeing some remodeling of the house in OH.

I am so ready to get back to work and get some painting done, especially back to my daily painting and blogging routine!

It sort of feels llike the cards are stacked against me this year - while I was taking care of family business, the shelves in my studio pulled out of the wall and dumped everything on the floor, and my studio turned into a bit of a dumping ground too. Stuff got piled in there - it is a mess!

So I've been working away at getting it back in order and I am ready to get going on some art work. The studio is still in disarray - as is my life -but I will post something new very soon!

One wonderful and exciting thing is happening - I will be a grandmother very soon! My daughter is due Nov 3. Here are a few photos I took over the weekend. Maybe I will paint one of them - who knows?
