Much Improved from Yesterday!

Untitled (for now)
20" x 30"
Acrylic on canvas

This is the same painting from yesterday. Very little of that painting is evident now. I am so much happier with it - it has energy and life now. It is very, very purple, and darker than I would prefer...I find that happens in my work quite often...almost as if I have no control over the lightness or darkness of it. Hmmm. Maybe I will devise a project around that problem - well, not problem maybe, rather challenge.  Anyway, here is today's offering, my labor of the day. So much more rewarding than yesterday! Now for the name - it seems to mean something, when I look at it like it is trying to tell me it's name - but I am not getting it yet. Do you have a name suggestion?

Sharing my Frustration

This painting is becoming a nightmare for me. It started out as a representational cityscape. Seriously. I have been working - and this is what I have to show for it. BLECH!! I will take a nap and go back to it later. But for now I just wanted to show you that I HAVE been working - but obviously not every painting is a hit and boy this one sure isn't right now.

Totally Not Art Related and Unplugging

Every now and then I run into some bit of nonsense that appeals to me for some random reason - and here is one of those things for today. Completely useless, yet somehow interesting. I admit I was a bit thrilled when I typed in my youngest daughter's name and found that there are fewer than 6 - and maybe no one else with her name. There is just something really appealing to me about uniqueness in what ever form it show up - even a name.

HowManyOfMe.com
LogoThere are
10,488
people with my name in the U.S.A.
How many have your name?

If this doesn't show up in your email - (for those of you who subscribe by email) - you will need to click on the name of my blog (above) and it will redirect you to my blog so you can try this out - if you are interested, that is. Or just go to http://nsdavisart.blogspot.com

And now a thought or two about unplugging.

I am thinking about doing it - and by that I mean getting rid of Facebook, Twitter, all of my other blogs, and just focusing on one combined blog and website.  I have been thinking about doing it for a while now. Seems like a good idea, I mean I can always come back to it. Actually I have been thinking about doing it for quite a while. So WHY - WHY - WHY can't I bring myself to do it? Is this like some sort of addiction? I can't for the life of me figure out why I love technology and playing in cyberspace so much. It is intriguing and baffling...the emotions that come with the thought of unplugging - from excitement and anticipation to grief and dread. It is just craziness.  Really. It's not that big of a deal and I know it. So why won't I just do it? I think it is a bit like giving up on a puzzle before it is solved, or putting down a mystery book before you find out who did it. I am moving closer and closer to unplugging. I will keep this blog and my art www.nsdavisart.com - and let the rest go.

Just think how much more time I would have to actually paint!

New Painting - Catalog Series # 11

Catalog Series #11
Acrylic on paper
Approx 11" x 11"

Another one I like. This is finished and works really well with #10 as a diptych. Actually #9, #10 and #11 all look really nice together.

Back in the Studio

Catalog Series #8
Acrylic on  paper
approx 11" x 11"

Wow. I don't even know what to say about this one. They always look so different to me when I see them online. It helps me a lot - for some reason all of the weakness that I didn't see seem to pop right out at me.

I am back in the studio after quite a few weeks. I've lost track.  We had a death in the family and I had to run off to Ohio for a while.  My Mom's companion of 50 years passed rather suddenly - or maybe I should say unexpectedly. He was 90, but very active and in pretty good shape. He was the closest thing I had to a father since my Dad died when I was a little girl. He was not a warm and fuzzy, cuddly kind of guy - but you could always count on him.

Once again - my life is turned upside down and inside out. Every time I think I am starting to get a grip and a plan and things are running more smoothly - WHAM! I guess that is normal though - I seem to hear it from an awful lot of people.

So I am back in the studio, trying to continue with the Catalog Series. Trying to get going again.  Trying to get some painting done as I will be going back to Ohio for about 3 weeks in May. This painting is probably not finished - I have 5 of these in progress right now. After seeing it posted here I am nearly certain it is not finished. But I wanted to get back to painting and posting and it feels good!
